5 Unique Ways to Use Oil Perfumes this Summer!

At DOT Made, one of the most common questions I get from customers is, “What is the best way to use oil perfumes?” After being exposed to Arabian oil perfume brands like Al-Nuaim, Al-Rehab, Surrati, Ard Perfumes, Lade Classic, and more for over 7 years, I’ve learned that there’s more to oil perfumes than simply dabbing them on your wrists. These potent, undiluted fragrances pack a punch, and their versatility is perfect for hot South African seasons like spring and summer.

In this blog, I’ll share some powerful tips and tricks I’ve picked up over the years to help you make the most of your oil perfumes. Whether you’re a seasoned user or just curious about trying them, these tips will help you unlock the full potential of these strong and long-lasting scents.

1. Pulse Points for Maximum Impact

The simplest and most effective way to use oil perfumes is by applying them to your pulse points. These areas, like your wrists, behind your ears, and on your neck, radiate heat, helping the fragrance diffuse throughout the day. Oil perfumes are much stronger than traditional spray perfumes, so a little goes a long way. Using a roller or stick, apply a small amount to these points, and you’re good to go! Remember, moderation is key—too much can be overwhelming due to the high concentration of the oil.

2. Transfer to Fabrics Without Staining

One of the questions I get asked a lot is whether oil perfumes can be used on clothing. The answer is yes, but with caution. Directly applying oil to your clothes with a roller or stick can cause staining. Here’s a trick I always share with my customers: apply the oil to your palms, rub your hands together gently, and then lightly brush them over your garments. This method transfers the scent without the risk of staining, and it allows the fragrance to cling to your fabric for long-lasting wear. Just be sure to have clean hands!

3. Mix With Lotion for Full-Body Scent

For a more subtle, all-over fragrance, try mixing your oil perfume with an unscented lotion. This not only helps the fragrance last longer but also allows the scent to penetrate your skin more deeply. If you prefer, you can mix the oil with a lightly fragranced lotion for a personalized twist. One of my top recommendations for men is the INGRAMS Moisture Plus Triple Glycerine Cream. It’s thick, blends well with oils, and keeps your skin hydrated while locking in the fragrance. But any high-quality lotion will do—your goal is to spread the scent across your body evenly.

4. Use in Hair and Beards

This one’s a hidden gem! While many of us are used to using oil products for hair care, we often overlook how amazing it is to apply oil perfumes to our hair or beards. Not only does it leave your hair smelling wonderful, but it also avoids the chemical scents that come with many hair products. Gently rub a small amount of the oil into your palms (just like how you apply to fabrics) and run your hands through your hair or beard. This technique keeps your scent fresh all day, and it’s particularly useful on hot, humid days.

5. Oil Perfumes as Diffuser Oils

Looking for a cost-effective way to keep your home smelling fresh? Perfume oils can double as diffuser oils! Mixing your favorite scents into a diffuser creates a unique aroma that fills your space. It’s an inexpensive, simple way to enjoy your perfume oils outside of personal wear, and it can really set the mood in any room.

These are just a few of the creative ways I’ve discovered to use oil perfumes. Of course, there are many other techniques, such as layering oils with traditional perfumes to create a one-of-a-kind scent. But the tips I’ve shared here have received the best feedback from our customers at DOT Made, and I hope they’ll help you enjoy your oil perfumes to the fullest.
